Core Beliefs

As much as we'd like to say, "We know what we believe!", we know that we are still growing in our understanding of God and His desires. Yet there are beliefs that are foundational in this faith. Our goal is to create a belief system that will provoke further thought, reading and discussion.

We believe in God the Creator, Savior, and Counselor.

God the Father is Creator.
In the Beginning God created the heavens and the earth. He created mankind in His likeness. He created Adam and Eve as gardeners and caretakers of this world. (Genesis 1-3)

Jesus Christ is our Savior.
He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and offered himself as a sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate his power over death and to demonstrate his love for us. He ascended to Heaven and will return to rule the earth.
(John 1:1-18, John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Acts 2:32,36, 1 Peter 3:18, Thessalonians 4:13-18)

The Holy Spirit is our Counselor.
He comforts, teaches, and helps God's followers become more like Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit makes all people aware of their sin and their need for God's help to overcome it.
(John 14:15-17, John 16:7-8, Acts 2:38, Galatians 5:22-23).

We believe the Bible is our best guide to life.
The Bible is God's word recorded by his apostles and prophets. We believe it is a reliable text. It is meant to provoke change and action and to lead us to God. (Hebrews 4:12, 2 Timothy 3:16, Isaiah 40:8) Sermons, commentaries, and other supplementary texts exist to help us understand the Bible - they do not take its place.

We believe people are created by God and are important to Him.
God has been involved in caring for His people throughout history. He continues to love His children and desire closeness with them. In his love for us, God made a way for man to be reconciled to him. That way is Jesus Christ. (Jeremiah 31:3, Isaiah 43:25, John 3:16-17, John 14:6)

We believe in forgiveness.
Forgiveness of sins and eternal life are available to all who believe in Jesus Christ. Believers are called to repent of their sins, confess their faith, be baptized, and put Jesus at the center of their lives.
(Acts 2:36, 38, Romans 10:9-11).

We believe in the church.
The church is the body of Christ on Earth. The job of the church is to love God, love people, and spread the word about Jesus in meaningful ways. (Ephesians 1:22-23, Colossians 1:24, Acts 2:42-47) Being a part of a local church is important. Just as a cord of three strands is not easily broken, neither is an interdependent body of Christ's followers. God designed his people to need each other and to accomplish things together that can't be done alone.
